Cancer Benefit: BOB Walk 2014

Relay For Life

Relay For Life is a community based fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. Today, more than 5,000 Relay For Life events take place across twenty countries. Events are held in local communities, campus universities and in virtual worlds. As the American Cancer Society’s most successful fundraiser and the organization’s signature event, the mission of Relay For Life is to raise funds to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers.

My Backstory

When I was 20 years old I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a large germ cell tumor, the size of a grapefruit, located on my heart. I immediately went on medical leave from school and began a very intense chemotherapy treatment schedule. After my chemotherapy treatment was complete, I had open chest surgery to remove the mass, which had shruken to the size of a golf ball due to the chemo. I was then diagnosed to be cancer free and have been in remission for over 15 years. While the topic of my YouTube channel is survival, I am very proud to be a “survivor”. Sadly, there are so many people who have not had the same success story…

Why I’m Participating

My emergency preparedness channel has grown to over 31,000 subscribers from all around the world. I am hoping that a small fraction of them would help me raise money for the American Cancer Society’s ongoing battle against cancer and to raise awareness of this ultimate emergency.

What I am planning on doing for Relay

In the prepping community, many people decide to create 72 hour emergency backpacks, often called a “Bug Out Bag” or “BOB”. They are designed to help keep a person alive during an crisis situation. On my channel I created my own “Urban Bug Out Bag” over a period of 18 months. To help spread awareness for both cancer and emergency preparedness, I plan on walking as many laps around the Relay For Life track as possible over the 24 hour period while carrying my 40+ pound bug out bag on my back. I am going to call it my “BOB Walk 2014″. The message is simple: “BUG OUT, CANCER!”

I hope you will consider joining my team or making a donation in support of my efforts. My team is called “The Prepper Community” in honor of the many thousands of like minded survivalists out there in the world. Together we can help make cancer bug out once and for all. Here is the team page:
